There is a buzz in Breckenridge Colorado today!

The Question? Should Breckenridge Colorado sponsor a Rodeo?

The town is considering holding weekend Rodeo events this summer. The location would be just south of town, down off Airport Road somewhere. The Buzz? well it doesn't have anything to do with location. Many folks have wrote the the editor of the local paper "The Summit Daily" declaring they feel any and all rodeos are actually cruel to the animals. They site various reasons specifically regarding the Bull and Bronco riding along with Team Penning (which is better known as calf roping)

The Beef- well you guessed it, these folks feel the animals are used and abused for the entertainment of others.

The flip side? Of course the town feels it would be a great event dumping plenty of tourism dollars into the town. Some people say "This is the West" for goodness sake and Rodeos are a big part of the heritage here. Additionally there really is no cruelty to the animals in any PRA (Professional Rodeo Association) event. The association makes certain requirements are met. Other Colorado mountain towns such as Steamboat Springs, Aspen, Evergreen and Avon all have very successful rodeo events. Denver Colorado holds one of the largest Rodeos in North America every January- 

Boulder? Well not Boulder, but lets keep in mind Boulder actually outlawed bug zappers and live lobster sales?

One author in the editorial section of the paper today wrote "Most of the rodeo events have their roots in skills needed on the ranch, Colorado has a rich and long history of ranching" 

So I am here to pose the question to you-

Should Breckenridge Colorado sponsor  Rodeo?

February 4 -  3:00 PM is Gold Rushes of the 19th century at the Nordic Center at 5 PM there is a 5K Moonlight Snowshoe Race at the Frisco Adventure Park! 6:00 PM is Spontaneous Combustion at the Frisco Marina. I have no idea what this is I think it is a community bonfire!!  7:00 PM is Frisco Fireworks at the marina.

February 5- 9:00 AM Race Registration at the Nordic Center- 11:00 AM is 15K Skate, 12:15 is the 10K Classic at 12:45 is my favorite Fosters Kids Treasure Hunt! Free ski and snowshoe lessons for the kids at 1:30 is the Freestyle Race and Fun Ski. we wrap it all up at 2:30 PM with the award ceremony. Have fun folks come on up to the Frisco 2012 Gold Rush
